TRAILS OF THE ROTHSEE JOINT MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

Trail #10

The trail begins at the Seezentrum (Water Centre) Heuberg, through the car park and then turns right. The first part of the route leads to the lock at Eckersmuehlen (sign posted as trail number 6). From here onto the village Haimpfarrich. In the village the trail forks to the left and after a 15 minute walk reaches the main 2220 road which needs to be crossed carefully. The first mill on this trail is the Loesmuehle which was officially documented in 1385. Passing the Muehlweiher pond and along the railway line between Roth and Hilpoltstein the next mill emerges, the Stephansmuehle. At present the peacefully situated mill is used as riding stables. Leaving the Stephansmuehle behind the trail now leads towards Hilpoltstein. To the right of the path the Paulusmuehle and the Seitzenmuehle peek out from the trees and fields.

The town centre and market place are reached along the Bahnhofstrasse and through the splendid park. Here the timber framed Rathaus impresses visitors and only saw the light of day again in 1974. Passing the Rathaus and church the trail leads up Kirchenweg and turns left into Spitalweg. The catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist can be traced back to a middle ages building. Above the castle ruin and House of Guests can be seen. Continue along past the massive building of the tax authority in the Johann-Friedrich-Strasse. It is worthwhile taking a look back at the end of the road to see the superb and now restored Jahrsdorfer Haus, built in 1523 it resembles the timber framed “Duererhaus” in Nuremberg. The trail leaves the town as it passes the outdoor pool and sports ground. Upon reaching the Rummelsberger mental hospital, "Auhof" the trail turns to the left until shortly before the main road to Freystadt where it turns to the right. Now along the side of the Main-Danube Canal back to the starting point.
