Trail #11

The trail begins at the Seezentrum (Water Centre) Heuberg, through the car park and then left towards Heuberg. Shortly before the village pass beneath the main 2225 road from Hilpoltstein to Allersberg. On top of the hill is the small village of Heuberg. The trail initially advances into the village until reaching the restaurant “Burgblick” where it turns right and continues past the village church.

At the end of the village a sign post points in the direction of Goeggelsbuch. Walk along the narrow road until the edge of the trees where the road is left behind. Walking along a dirt track a small glade appears and looking left the old 428m high “Burgstallbuck” can be seen. Now the trail leads to the right through a short wooded area before reaching a gravel path where the path goes left. Passing meadows and fields soon the edge of the trees is reached where in the distance the water tower in Goeggelsbuch can be seen. Through farmland now towards Riedersdorf. Shortly before the village there is an old stone cross and a stone with cross on the right of the path. The trail goes through the village and then turns left into woodland. Minettenheim is the next point along the route after passing beneath the motorway and railway line.

The small catholic village church dating from 1853 decorates the small village, it has five wooden figures from the end of the 15th century. A hundred metres after leaving the village a gravel path to the left leads towards Moerlach which is soon reached over a small rise. The family name of Moerlach has been here since the 12th century. Notable is the Moerlacher manor house built in 1775 by Christoph Adam Carl which Goethe once visited.

Continuing on to Bischofsholz. Shortly after leaving the village turn right to the Main-Danube Canal and on to the lock at Hilpoltstein. The construction of these lock is almost identical with those at Eckersmuehlen. After passing the imposing locks the trail follows the canal path. Soon after passing the village Altenhofen comes the canal bridge near Heuberg where the forest path forks to the right. Over a small rise to the road which leads directly back to the starting point.
